Shoot The Moon Music is the creative home of Dutch musician, songwriter, and producer Tjeerd van Zanen. Operating across songwriting, music production, television scoring, and his indie label STM Records, Tjeerd personally guides artists, songwriters, and performers. He combines these disciplines to help creators develop impactful songs and records that connect with audiences across borders and generations.
With more than 45 years of experience in the music industry, Tjeerd has built a reputation as a versatile guitarist, songwriter, engineer and producer. His work spans rock, pop, fusion and contemporary music, combining strong songwriting with a deep understanding of artist development and record production.
Over the course of his career, he has written and co-written songs for Dutch and international artists, including multiple entries for the Eurovision Song Contest, and has collaborated with artists such as Ilse DeLange, André Hazes and Yves Berendse.
Career highlights (shown below in this section) include co-founding the acclaimed fusion band Back To Basic and The Auratones, contributing to the jazz-pop project Ugly White Belly, and serving as programme director of the iconic Vrienden van Amstel LIVE concert series from 2000 to 2007.
Alongside his work in the studio, Tjeerd has shared his expertise as a lecturer in songwriting and music production at Codarts University of the Arts Rotterdam and ArtEZ University of the Arts Enschede, helping shape the next generation of music professionals.

From pop, rock, hip-hop to jazz-funk — Tjeerd has been instrumental in a wide range of bands as founder, member, songwriter and producer.
Back To Basic (1988 - Today)
Heavily rooted in jazz-funk, soul, and brass-heavy fusion. Relies on a giant, energetic wall of sound created by a driving rhythm section, rhythmic guitars, and a massive horn section.

The Auratones (1986 - Today)
Prominent Dutch septet known for their high-energy blend of funk, soul, and “jazz with a beat”. Celebrated for their tight horn sections, driving rhythms, and playful stage presence.

Geo / GEO Band (1976 - 1986)
Starting as backing for solo singer George (Geo) Dijkhuis in 1976, eventually solidifying with well known studio musicians into The Geo Band to tour the Dutch live circuit

Ugly White Belly (1992 - 1997)
A notable Dutch electronic jazz-fusion band formed in 1992. Although the band ended in 1997, they’ve left a mark on the “electronic jazz/pop landscape in the Netherlands.

Spot The Loony (1980 - 1985)
Formed in December 1980, composed of self-taught, “bat-shit crazy big city boys” who created a unique musical blend they called “Humo Swing” or “Nutty Sound”.

Moonrunners (1986 - 1989)
One of the very first hip-hop bands in the Netherlands. Emerging from the raw and dynamic music scene of Rotterdam in the early 1980s.
